Meeting Minutes

March 4, 2010

A regularly scheduled monthly club meeting of Southern Ocean RC Flyers Inc was held on March 4, 2010 at the Little Egg Harbor Community Center, Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey.

The minutes of this meeting are as follows:

• The meeting began @ 7:13 PM

• A Quorum of members was met with the following people in attendance:
  
  Members: Lou Castelli, Mike Valese, Steve Lucas Sr, Jeff Haseck, Lee Morey,
  Rich Gerardi, Lee Frost, Chuck Wilson, Steve Huminski.
  
  Guests: Mark Kornytchuk, W. Nelson Dilg and Son.

• Steve Huminski gave the Treasurer's Report - $3029.71. Recent expenditures included renewal of the
  club web site and P.O box, and another 12 week payment on the airport porta john.

• Lee Morey Brought up the current late fee policy for discussion.
  
  Steve Huminski suggested that fees be kept in place but moved to March 1st instead on Jan 31st.
  
  The issue of possible financial hardships was brought to light, Lou Castelli welcomed members to confidentially contact an officer in this case and this will be handled on a case by case basis.
  
  Mark Kornytchuk voiced his opinion that the late fee is unnecessary, and also that the club should offer a pro rated membership rate for those who do not fly until May / June. This was met by opposition from most other members who thought that dues should be kept as an annual fee regardless of when you fly. The current club budget was also discussed again, and it was again mentioned that the club just barely met it's expenditures with the collected dues for the 2009 calendar year. We are currently down 7 paying members from 2009 which only helps to put the budget in the 'red' for 2010.
  
  Steve Huminski made official Motion to draft a change to bylaws which will move the current date when dues will be considered late from Jan 31st to March 1st, and keep the current $20 late fee in place. This will give members approximately 60 days, and two monthly club meetings, from the end of the previous year to pay their dues before incurring the late fee. Lee Morey seconded this motion.
  
  Bylaws change will be drafted, and voted on during the April meeting. Notification will be made to membership via email that this vote will take place. Bylaws will also be consulted to verify that no other restrictions are in place regarding bylaws changes that would make an April vote impossible.

• Eagles Nest Field Report - Clear of snow. Roadway is crumbling a bit, so be careful. Repairs may be done soon, just be careful when driving in and look out for potholes, etc.

• Cub Scouts contacted Club via email in Feb regarding March being "take flight" month for the scouts. Lou spoke with scout master. Lou offered scouts an invitation to the airport and also to a club meeting. Nothing formal has been arranged yet. Next scout meeting will be March 19th, Chuck Wilson offered to meet with them. Anyone else interested in joining Chuck, please contact him at 609-661-1332. Anyone with small indoor aircraft or helis would be a valuable addition to the scout meeting.

• Club's "Fly an Airplane" class will be March 11, 2010 at 7:00pm at Stafford High School.  An organizational meeting will be held at Lou's house Monday evening 3/8 at 6:00pm.

• New members (W. Nelson Dilg and son) joined the club tonight.

• Next SORC club meeting will be Thursday April 1, 2010.

• Meeting was adjourned at just after 8:00pm.
